Atlanta School Scandal
The Atlanta Public Schools scandal was a major event where teachers were caught manipulating test scores. These teachers felt that they had to alter test results on standardized testing in fear of losing their jobs, funding, and overall rating for their school district. This case touches on how policies put in place to benefit the community might actually have negative consequences and might end up harming those same individuals they were meant to help. These teachers did what they thought would be best not only for themselves but for the students and the school districts. This shows how public policies truly affect the public.
Smart Cities
In this paper I discuss how technology can be used to facilitate the everyday life of individuals and how it can be used to increase life expectancy, deter crime, improve education systems, etc. I mention several examples of technology helping the community such as, using cellphone applications to report things that need to be replaced within their communities is an effective way to get the public involved in the community. This also shows that the government wants the public to help them preserve their communities and is willing to facilitate their involvement by using new technology.
The coronavirus pandemic had countless effects on the world and how we function as human beings. Many things changed after the pandemic and many innovations facilitated our everyday lives. The pandemic allowed the Department of Transportation to find new ways of serving the public. This paper mentions how individuals can now pay for services using their cell phones. The risk of this, however, is vulnerability to cyberattacks. Apart from online risks, organizations also need to be cognizant of maintaining effectiveness and efficiency and not lowering standards for either simply to improve the other.
